As a young child, my earliest interaction to biology required me to have a vivid and creative imagination when exploring nature, particularly the populations which inhabited my backyard. Today it’s clear that 15 years after immigrating to the states from Haiti, that the same childhood creativity and active imagination combined with hard work and persistency would consequently led to my current status as a rising 4th year PhD candidate in the biomedical sciences program at Florida State University.

However, I cannot take all the credit for my successes thus far. My journey was not traveled alone, my academic progress and advancement is owed to a few individuals who have made significant contribution in shaping my personal and academic experience into a positive one. These individuals provided me with strong mentorship and guidance along the way, and they have inspired me to do the same by mentorship, support and guidance to others with similar academic, racial and cultural background. As a former adjunct professor at Hillsborough community college, Tampa FL; I interacted with a lot of minority students. Most of them needed encouragement and guidance with continuing their STEM education. STEM-azing advancement is born then to serve as an initiative and an act of service to my community.

Throughout my academic career, I was able to find resources and mentors with parallel background to help guide and support me in my goals. I learned to value solid networking relationships with scientists as it is imperative in order to promote the pursuit of scientific discovery, academic success, and diversity. But I do recognize that those resources are not easy to find for most minority students. STEM-azing advancement services is aimed to keep you informed and educated about scientific discoveries and careers in STEM fields. In addition, it will provide you guidance and support with your STEM goals to ensure that you become successful.
